How to get Better Rankings with Flickr - You didn't know this

We all know the importance of one-way links aka backlinks to increase our ranking in the search engines which in turn directly influences our traffic. Traffic being VIP, ok so some of you newbies might not know what backlinks are or why they are neccesary at all. Basically backlinks can be obtained in various ways online and it helps to give your site depth and strentgh which in turn helps your site to rank better in the search engines. Most of the time where SEO is concerned it will be the site with the most indexed pages along with backlinks from relevant sources that will rank tops.
Another pretty important thing is using image tags... especially when you are dealing with a site that has a lot of images you need to add those tags. So in the line of what I just said about the image tags, I will be talking about how you can use Flickr - one of the internet's biggest image sharing sites to increase your site's backlinks.

Why use Flickr?? Well first off it's a very popular site that get millions of hits each and every day and as far as my knowledge stretches you never say no if there is a possibility to leverage traffic from such a powerhouse. Remember you will be able to obtain backlinks as well as get direct visits through your link.

So how will I be using Flickr to gain backlinks. Well the first thing you would want to do is do a search query within Flickr. use your niche and website's targeted keywords. Once you find photo's that comply to your search then you need to comment on those pics. Try staying within the relevant field of your niche and leave comments such as, " WOW great pic, is it possible that I could use this pic on my site" and then drop your link... This way you will be scoring a backlink plus you'll be getting curious clickthroughs.

Like I said be smart and don't spam, stay in your niche and you'll be well rewarded. Now go and Flickr It and see your backlinks multiply.

Is Your Website Effective?

SEO Keyword Density Tool Ask yourself the question - Is Your Website Effective?
Internet marketing is a very exciting advertising medium. Business large and small are taking advantage of this great medium to reach world-wide audiences. Doing this, in many ways means learning brand new marketing techniques. Keyword density is a common phrase used in SEO marketing. SEO stands for "search engine optimization". Search engines are the way your customers find you online. Without the highest listings on the various popular search engines all of your hard work is likely to go un-noticed by the very people who can benefit from your products and services. This is where a good keyword density tool comes in to play.

Very few people understand keyword density, or the reasoning behind it, even though internet marketing is very well understood as a prime way to reach consumers. Once they have grasped the importance of having particular keywords that the search engines will pick up on and use to rank their site, they rarely know if they are employing those keywords. Often times website creators think they have good keyword density just because they are talking about their product on the site. This is not always the case. In fact, it is often opposite the truth because they are spreading out too many different versions of keyword elements. Without the use of a keyword density tool it is almost impossible to tell for sure if you have achieved the proper level of keywords for your product.

By using the innovative keyword density tool @ MyDeafDog you can instantly tell if the wording on your website is effective for getting noticed on the search engines. It is simple to use. Just click on the link www.mydeafdog.com/keyword_density_tool.htm and type in your websites URL. In seconds the tool will deliver the most common words and phrases on your site and their number of occurrences.

This enables you to see if the proper keywords are being used, and if the keyword density is appropriate for your website. Normal SEO marketing statistics show that a density of about 10 percent is the most effective means of garnering the proper search engine attention. This means that for every 100 words on your page you should have at least 1 mention of your particular keyword in play. Using the keyword density tool will show you if you are effective quickly.

The Search Engines Is Relevant To You

I admit it; I search for my name a lot. First name Last name, click, send, wait, smile! It's exciting to see what the search engines find most relevant about me. If you haven't tried it yet, you should. Everybody likes to feel important or at the very least less obscure and more accessible online to friends, loved ones, fans, viewers, colleagues you name it.
What's interesting is the distinctly different types of websites and information that the top 3 (Google, MSN, and Yahoo) return in response to a first name last name search. Now a lot of these differences are not specific to a name search and would fit in the categories of conational SEO, but the reasons why I think it's important to talk about this specific search separately from regular SEO are:

1. this search is one of the most important to an individual emotionally. Your first and last name appears on everything you create. It can represent your reputation, your family heritage, your professional image, your expertise, and your experience, all at the same time. Give me another two search words that cover all of that.

2. People use their first and last name in documents and websites in similar ways that differ extensively from other words Most of us, for example, don't have social networking accounts, blogs, press releases, work history, personal comments and video files all attached to a string of keywords like "buy movies now".

Recently, do to the pending release of the free movie Boy Who Never Slept and an aggressive marketing campaign, references to 'Solomon rothman' have increased dramatically and span many different sources. Considering this, I thought it would be a perfect time to do a search comparison on the different types of results to gain a fresh perspective on name searches and what each of the search engines prefer.

Initial things to note:

1. My myspace account is very new with almost to no outside links pointing at it.

2. I use my real name solomonrothman in my usernames for website profile pages. Examples of this are below. On MSN (results summarized in bullets)

* My website * My profile page on associated content * My profile page on Design Firms * My profile page on Blogs Flux * My user page on Wikipedia * Google Video listing * Contact page on top design firms

On Yahoo (results summarized in bullets)

* The other solomon rothman's website (not me) * My website * Specific associated content articles * Deep pages within my website * Archive.org * Press releases * Creative commons blog * Directories * Comments I made on some substantial blogs * Dig article * Google video

On Google (results summarized in bullets )

* My website * My user profile at Associated Content * Profile at blog Flux * WikiNews Article * Design Firms Profile * Internet Archive * Feedburner URL * LOTS OF PRESS RELEASES * Google Video listing * Wikipedia User Page * Myspace Profile

This is my no means scientific, but by comparing all three there are some interesting conclusions that could be drawn or at least hypothesized about. You would of course need a lot more test data, to make any concrete, but here are some interesting comparisons. Analysis on searching for a persons name or first name, last name searches

Commonalities among all 3:

* my personal website to be the most important / relevant (yahoo liked the personal website of the other solomon rothman more) * individual Google Video Listings were included in the top results

Individual Relevancy Preferences MSN

* Values both topic related and general Profile and user pages on large established websites and social networks over other results. * Wikipedia pages including user pages * Link Directories

It's interesting that it brings up my wikiusername page on the first page results, this is just a free user page used to let editors I may be working with know more about me.

Yahoo

* Specific Articles (as opposed to the profile pages at article submission or promotion sites) * Deep pages within personal website * Internet Archive Listings (put them above Google Video) * Listings and tag entries on technorati.com (blog search engine with listings and tags)

Google

* Highly values profile pages on topical sites like (designfirms.org) * Myspace * Wikinews items rank very high * Internet Archive Video Listings appear EXTRMELEY high * Individual Video Listing from other video distribution websites like bolt, and vivemo. * feed burner urls * press releases

Individual Dislikes or things that seen to rank substantially lower specifically on these engines MSN

* Doesn't rank press releases very high in results for a person's name, puts them after profile pages, and directories. * Listings and tag entires on technorati.com (blog search engine with listings and tags) none show up in the top 100.

Yahoo

* Wikipedia Items (not one listing in the top 100, as opposed to msn, (in top 10) and Google in top 30

Google # listings and tag entries on technorati.com

Remember that I use my real name as my username and repeat it specifically on the about me pages etc of each of these websites, that I'm sure obviously if you don't use your first name or last name on these sites, they won't come up.

Interesting things to note:

In the top 50 resutls of MSN was included my user page on the social bookmarking system delicious solomonrothman . That's EXTREMELY intesting because in the meta tags on that page say no index, no follow and no archive:

It appears msn is not only indexing this page, but ranking it above other information rich sites for certain keywords. YET ANOTHER REASON TO start SOCIAL BOOKMARKING.

Interesting trends applicable to all searches Video in regular search results

Video listings, especially on Google Video and the Internet Archive are showing up for regular keyword searches that don't use the word video, movie, etc. It appears all the search engines consider topic specific videos (at least the video listing pages) to be as relevant as regular information / text rich websites. A great example is search Google for Helicopter fire California. Thinking the "old way" I would guess this search to bring up news articles using those keywords, and it does for some of the results.

In the first 15 entires there are 3 separate references to a video file I uploaded showing a helicopter drop over a fire in California. 2 separate entries for various listing on archive.org and another listing for the Google video listing.

This is very powerful and although it may have been prominent in the past, I don't remember bringing up very many video listings on my normal searches, but things are changing, video is becoming the new sought-after relevant content in the online arena.

My space is a very powerfully free resource(other social networks are too) Even without any additional promotion (outside links for example) my myspace account ranked among the top sites in for my name in both MSN and Google. That's huge. If you want to put some information on the top spots for a name search and don't have a lot of time/budget/knowledge to undergo an SEO campaign, consider joining myspace and using your real first and last name.

You could have your personal page among the top spots in a matter of weeks. Of course if your name is extremely common, this tactic probably won't work. No luck for John Smith.

Wikipedia is a great place to contribute information As an extra bonus you may receive some Search Engine Recognition for it

Articles are still a great way to promote yourself and there are some great places that will even pay you for your published articles and still link to your site. I admit it, I search for my name a lot. First name Last name, click, send, wait, smile! It's exciting to see what the search engines find most relevant about me. If you haven't tried it yet, you should. Everybody likes to feel important or at the very least less obscure and more accessible online to friends, loved ones, fans, viewers, colleagues you name it.

Getting Your Site Indexed in Alexa

Although Alexa's search results are driven by Google, this is a definite must in your search engine marketing plan.

The reason is that Alexa will provide statistics about your website that no other search engine or web directory will provide.

These statistics include:
*your site ranking on the internet *what sites are linking to yours *Detailed traffic statistics *Site thumbnails *Site Speed
these are just a few examples.

You can also use Alexa to search for your keywords. This will tell you who your competition is for the keywords you have selected. You can more carefully study your competition, find out who is linking to your competition, and use what you learn to raise your rankings in the search engines, as well as find better keywords for your website.
Alexa also has its own crawler, and even though you may show up in the search results powered by Google, you still want to have Alexa crawl your site.

Alexa, like Google, may discover your site on its own. However, it's been my experience that Alexa only updates my site when I visit Alexa and make updates. This includes the thumbnails.
The first step that you should take before submitting to Alexa is to type in the domain name of your site to see if you are listed.
If you are listed, study the thumbnail for your site and see if needs to be updated. You should also check your site description, as well as contact information, and if it needs to be updated, update it.

Alexa will require that you verify your website in one of two ways. The first is to enter your email address, and Alexa will send you a confirmation email. The other way is that you can verify is to create an info.txt file and upload it to the root directory of your website. You can then click the verification link and Alexa will verify your site.
If your site isn't listed for some reason, you will need to submit. Alexa gives detailed instructions, as well as information on creating a robots.txt file.

If you want to find out who your competition is, and get a competitive edge, then Alexa is an indispensable tool to help you. Use the detailed information you'll find on this site, and you can easily raise your rankings in the search engines and get more traffic.
Although Alexa results are driven by Google, you want to make sure that you actually submit your site to this search engine so that you can get detailed stats, as well as check out your competition.

How to Use Free Article Directories, Post Your Articles Quickly, and Benefit Most

You will have heard this before, and I'll make no apologies for saying it again. Content is king when it comes to the Internet. Fresh and relevant content both on your site, and in article directories feeding backlinks and page rank into your site, is the key to success. It is the lifeblood by which websites gain new audiences, keep existing ones, and continually improve their page ranking in search engines.

It is a common misconception that submitting your website to search engines will lift your site up in the rankings. But the truth is that despite what the SEO companies say, this does not get your web page better ranking unless there is almost no competition. That is a misconception about Search Engine Optimization that has been going around for quite sometime.
Submitting your articles to article directories is the best way to promote your web site. If you think that you have no skills in writing just search for “Content Writers”, or “Article Writers” and you will see a long list of sites that offer these services. You will find that article writing rates are not high and the articles you receive will be unique and therefore much more effective than PLR article content.

Submit you articles to Ezinearticles dot com first because this is the best article site, and all articles are read by a human before they are accepted. Rewrite the article by at least one third, and then submit it to the other top article directories.
The top article directories (e.g. Ezinearticles) produce statistics that show up in your member area, with details of how many people read your articles. As you develop your portfolio strategy and it becomes effective you can then boost your results by writing within your area of expertise and increasing your submission frequency.
Many of the top article directories will allow you to use html in your resource box. This means that you can hyperlink your keywords and everywhere your article, and hence your resource box with the hyperlinked keywords, are posted there is a keyword that links directly to your site.

Internet browsers go from the search engines to your article and onto your niche store which you will have linked to in the author bio box at the bottom of your article. Secondly, other webmaster, bloggers and ezine publishers use the articles in these directories as content for their visitors. However, as they do so they are required to preserve the link back to your site, with obvious good effects on site management.
Internet marketing is so simple. Sometimes I think people over complicate it. Internet savvy people know about affiliate marketing and most of the time will strip your affiliate URL if they decide to buy the product.

Signing up for a free article account in each of the directories is simple. Go to the sign-up page. Click on the button next to the package you want. Then simply visit their articles homepage to learn more about the various packages on offer for article directory submission. Plus, we recommend that you only need to submit to article directories that of a Google PR of 2 or more.
Google and the rest of the search engines frequently visit the higher ranked article directories and will pick up on the link to your website in your 'author's resource', or bio. When they find your site, you get listed, and that can happen in less than 24 hours. Google is most likely to notice and index the types of links which are to and from related sites though. For example, if your website is about cars and you trade links with a site about flowers, it probably won’t help your site very much at all. I have found that I is not necessary to submit your articles to a very large number of article directories, but you do need to send them to between 15 and 20 of the top Directories. There are a number of Article Directory Submission softwares available, but only three that I have found which do this with one click once the have been set-up. The others simply help you to post to each Article Directory, by pasting in the article as you arrive on the site. However, these applications don't usually log you in beforehand, or select categories or pen name, and logging in manually to do this each time rapidly becomes a time consuming and tedious chore.

However, article directory submission provides free advertising and links, and it is a well established and dependable source of targeted traffic, which simply cannot be ignored. So, we recommend that all those serious in marketing their web sites do at least invest in article submission software, if nothing else.

What is Google Sandbox Effect?

In simple words it is one type of restriction for newer websites by not allowing them to get higher rankings in google search engine. A new website with quality backlinks and even with good content does not receive higher rankings for important keywords and phrases for certain period of time. The sanbox effect is also one type of test for newer websites, as google wants the best websites or quality content oriented websites or established websites to be listed first to provide quality results to users. It is also used to stop spam websites getting popular quickly. There are many webmasters who purchases lot of links very quickly and wants their website to get listed on 1st place for highly competitive keywords from the day of launch. Google's policy strongly opposes of buying/selling links and hence purchase and sales of backlinks is violation of terms of google.

Especially those websites come under the scanner of google sandbox effect very quickly which tries to get higher rankings for highly competitive keywords and phrases. One can avoid from getting their websites to sandbox effect by targeting less competitive keywords, so that google might have no point in applying filter for such websites, however still risk remains intact as this is just a thought or strategy.

Website once placed under the scanner of google sandbox is kept away from higher ranking for the period of one to six months. It highly depends upon the keywords targeted. It is believed that websites targeting highly competitive keywords takes full six month period to get out of it and websites targeting less competitive keywords come out of it quite sooner than it.
It is very easy to determine whether the website is under sandbox effect or not. If a website does not receives good SERP'S (Search Engine Ranking Position) for very less competitive or less important keywords then it is quite confirmed that the said website is in google sandbox effect. Also the said website doesn't shows any pagerank or pagerank displayer of google toolbar turns grey in case of such penalty.

It is also believed that there is no real escape from the google sandbox effect for the website which is trapped once. The effect of it will surely get decreased as time passes on. So once you had discovered that your website is in sandbox effect then you had found ideal time for increasing your backlinks, as sandbox solves two filters at once. Don't purchase paid links as it is violation of google terms, grow it your own way. You can use techniques like article marketing, directory submissions, blog commenting, forum posting and other various techniques. While using directory submission technique it is highly recommended to do manual directory submissions to get your site listed in accurate category and also in order to get good approval ratio.

Work meanwhile for improvement of content of your website and try enriching it with high quality content. Also it is highly advised not to get solely dependent on Google search engine for traffic. Also use alternative source of traffic like social bookmarking, adwords etc....
Google Sanbox Effect is still a topic of debate as many SEO experts doubt on the existence of google sandbox. SEO experts argue that google doesn't uses any such different filters like google sandbox and it is an existing part of current algorithm calculations of google. But from reliable sources google had admitted of having such an effect, however it is not yet accepted by them publicly.

How to use Meta Tags Optimally

Meta Tags are what all search engines look at in one form or another to list your web site in a search engine directory. Located in the head of your web page code, your visitors don't see them but without them your web site won't get very many visitors.
In order for each of your web pages on your web site to be properly categorized by search engine spiders they must contain three very important meta tags.

- Title Tag : This is the single most important tag. It is what search engines will use as the link to your web site within their directory. The title tag needs to contain as many keywords that apply to your page as possible, be no longer than 60 characters long (includes spaces) and be readable so that it will get people to click on it. Without a good title tag your web page stands little chance of coming up high in keyword searches done on search giants like Google.

- Description Tag : This is what you hope the search engine will use for the brief description that is placed after your linked title in the search directory. It should also contain as many keywords that are important to the web page, be no longer than 150 characters (includes spaces) and be a legible sentence. It should reinforce the title making readers want to click on your listing but do not duplicate your title word for word in your description. Some search directories use your web page content in place of this description so be sure your first few sentences of content reflect the purpose of the page and the page title.

- Keyword Tag : Over time these have become less relevant and in some cases not even looked at but most experts still highly recommended you use this tag to cover all your bases. The keyword tag should contain only the keywords relevant to the page they represent, be in order of importance, be no longer than 850 characters (includes spaces) and do not repeat any word, even with in a phrase, more than three times. If you use a keyword that is not also in the content of the web page some search engines will look at the whole page as not relevant to list. List your keywords in the order of importance to your content and title, with the first 8 to 10 keywords or phrases being the most important. Most all search engines will consider the over usage of keywords in either this tag or the content as spamming so be careful not to use any one form of a word more than three times in the keyword tag.

Using these three tags along with strong, relevant content will work in your favor with search engine spiders that come visit your web site from time to time.

Selecting A Niche Using 3 Google Search Commands

Selecting a Niche Using 3 Google Search Commands
In this article I will teach you how to select a niche and see how much competition you'll be facing.

Ok, you're ready to start selling something! Great. Now, let's make sure we aren't competing against too many other sites. First things first. We need to select a keyword phrase. A keyword phrase is what search engine users will type into the search engine when looking for a product or service.

Since most web users use the Google Search engine I will be discussing Google commands. To gauge the number of competing sites in our niche we will perform a Google search using our phrase in quotes. An example would be "garmin nuvi gps navigation".

Ok, our results should be under 50,000. Anything more makes SEO optimization a bit difficult. This gives a general overview of the competition on the internet for that phrase.

Next, we will see how many websites have the phrase in their pages title tag. Let's go to Google.com and search for: allintitle:"garmin nuvi gps navigation"

Here, we're looking for a total result of 5000 or less (less is better). At this current time there are 324 websites that have specifically designed pages to fit that phrase. That, my friends is your true competition. Your SEO and website needs to be better that those results.

The final Google command that we will be discussing is allinanchor. First, what is anchor text. Anchor text is the visible link text in a url.

The anchor text (or visible text) would be: Garmin Nuvi GPS navigation, not my website name. Anchor text should be very keyword rich and if often one of the best ways to achieve an increased SERP. Instead of choosing gps-units.org as my anchor text I have instead chosen a keyword rich anchor text (Garmin Nuvi GPS navigation).

When searching for allinanchor:"my niche phrase" your results should be 5000 or less (the lower the better). The final Google command to use when searching for a niche is allinurl:"my niche phrase". Allinurl is just as important as allintitle. Allinurl results means that your competition has designed and named a page around your niche phrase. An example would be www(dot)gps-units(dot)org / garmin-nuvi-gps-navigation(dot)htm

We need to make sure that there are a very low number of results returned. In this case 1000 or less will do (less is better).

So, those are the 3 Google commands I use to help me select a prospective niche. I hope this article makes sense and helps you find prospective niches.

A Quick Way To submit website or blog to many bookmark sites

There are so many stories online that tell you about how there is great businesses to be made online. The only problem is that there are many times that maybe hundred times that which contradict those winner stories. These stories we seldom hear about. Many have tried to launch a business enterprise on the Internet but only a handful will succeed.
What are some of the key factors to achieving success online today. Well for one it takes good business sense, some help from others, Most of all sheer determination, eagerness to succeed, and a certain willingness to learn, and most of all invest in alot of Hard work. Some say you should have a bit of money invested, but not that much really. Online businesses allows for exceptionally small start up Capital.

Ok enough beating around the bush, Like in the Matrix Movie , NEO is "The One" The same thing can be said of traffic. Without traffic all your efforts will go to waste, the more traffic you can create for your site the more people you will be able to sell items to. There are two options available to you, you can either go and buy traffic, or you can try to build your own traffic by using the search engines and try to achieve rank or placement in them. This method is called "SEO" or Search Engine Optimized. The method I am going to talk about involves building traffic through the search engines. Social Bookmarking websites not only achieves more traffic but also extremely valuable backlinks for Search Engine Placement aka "Serps".

Social Bookmark sites what are they?

Social Bookmark sites are public depositories of bookmarks saved to one location or site. These public bookmark sites are like a public billboard for bookmarked sites of everyone that chooses to place bookmarks there. Basically if you are surfing the internet and come across a site of interest that you want to comeback to at a later date, then you would normally bookmark that site, to your favorites in your browsers toolbar. Now in this case, with Social Bookmarking sites, you don't just save it to your browsers favorites but you also save it to a bookmark site. Like Digg or propeller,Slashdot, del.icio.us, stumbleupon, and many others. These sites will usually have some sort of button that you can drag to your toolbar , which when clicked will save that that webpage to that bookmarking site.

Why use Bookmark sites?

Bookmarking sites like the ones mentioned above "Digg" etc.. usually have a very good ranking in the search engines due to the fact that many people use them. They have millions of pages indexed in Google and Yahoo search engines and have high Page rank. I can't explain page rank in detail but it is a scale from one to ten. The higher the pagerank of your website the more google will like your site and give it favorable listings. To obtain high pagerank one should try to link ones own page to high ranking pages like bookmarking sites. The more sites you link to with high pagerank the higher your own page rank will grow over time.

How do I bookmark my site to many social bookmark sites?

The best method to bookmark your website or blog to as many social bookmark sites as possible. Through the use of a social book mark service or a submitter program. There are quite a few free submitters available online. As well there are paid submitters, or even paid submission services as in outsourced human submitters from different countries where the cost of Labour is less than in Western Europe or North America.

To conclude this article submitting to many social bookmark services is a good way to get a website indexed in the search engines. To get traffic to a blog or website, and to increase the pages search engine rankings.

Hints on SEO Web Site Development

SEO (searching engine optimization) refers to practices and web site characteristics that are done to achieve better ranking positioning and gain organic traffic to your site.
SEO web site development must begin with the first steps of web site building; just when you are figuring what the focus will be and which specific features will your site need.

Your first step should be creating a hierarchical list of possible sections for your site to accommodate your content. These sections or pages must be optimized around the right keywords There are two kinds of keywords: · Main keywords: the most popular terms, used in head queries. Usually are the most expensive words to bid on and the hardest to target with SEO web site development. · Low fruit keywords: used in long tail queries and some how less popular, but taken collectively sum a great amount of traffic to your site.

How to tell them apart? Well, low fruit keywords are those with less than 10,000 competing results and with results in the first searching engine result page with PR 4 or lower.

It is very important for the success of your SEO web site development that you take the necessary time to choose the keywords for your site at the very beginning of the process. This will render its profits later and you will be glad you did it right.

Assign a primary keyword per page and try to name your files using their correspondent keyword. It really doesn't matter whether you use dashes or not.

Another important aspect about SEO web site development is to always use clean code. A search engine only reads code, and your content won't be understood or indexed properly if it is plagued with many errors.

In the same way, some design characteristics must be avoided by all means. That is the case with frames because search engines don't understand them and people don't like them and splash pages that don't have information for indexing purposes.

Other design characteristics should be studied carefully in your SEO web site development. For example, tables can pull your keyword rich content further down in your page and confuse the engines, and image maps and drop-down or pull-down menus with java scripts must include text hyperlinks also.

As you can see, SEO web site development is rather a complex theme, and you have to think of it from a wider point of view, such as SEO Technology Environment.

Competition and Offsite Analysis -SEO

First of all, Google does not display all of the links they find to a site and thus, this count will leave you with about 5 or 6 percent of the real links to your main competitors.
Yahoo! is much better at displaying all the links to a site however even this has it's shortcomings in the analysis process. Secondly, the number of links is only a fraction of what's important in their development.

To fully grasp how your competitors are ranking highly for your targeted phrases you will want to know a number of things about the links to their site including:

* how many links do they have? * How many of these links come from the same sites? * Are these sites relevant? * What is the PageRank distribution of the links? * Are these links image or text links and if text, * what anchor text is used to link to your competitor's site?

Why Are These Factors Important?

These factors are important as they define the value of the link. To put it simply: the high value of link means that your Home Business Start site is of high value.

The number of links is perhaps the least important of these factors. A site can have 10,000 incoming links and if they are all from a single unrelated site with a low PageRank then the value of these links is negligible.

Knowing how many of the links to your competitor's site come from the same site or sites will let you know where they have bought advertising and also help isolate weakness in their link counts.

Multiple links from the same website are not given the same value as multiple links from different websites. If your competitors have thousands of incoming links that come from 5 different websites you have far less work to do that if they even had a couple hundred, all from different sites.

The relevancy of the incoming links is extremely important and gaining importance every update.

Unfortunately this is also the hardest factor to gauge as, "what constitutes relevancy?" and, "how exactly do I find out if my competitors links are relevant without visiting every one of their links?" can be problematic questions.

Gauging relevancy can generally be done with a simple thought: if I am on a site and the link makes sense to be there (for example, a web design company linking to a web hosting company) then it can be considered relevant. Basically, if there are people who will actually click the link then it is relevant. Finding out if your competitor's links are relevant without visiting every one of their link partners is a different hurdle to jump.

Rather than visiting each-and-every link it is easier view only the most important ones; that would be the ones from high PageRank pages. But how does one do that?

It is very energy-saving to use a top-software (see below) to tear apart the external factors our main competitors are using to hold top ten positions.

While in on page optimization it was possible to note that there are other tools out there that break down keyword density elements, I am not able to do the same with offsite optimization factors.

Once you have optimized the onsite factors from part one of SEO process it's time to launch into the external factors. External SEO factors generally refer to the internal links to your, and your competitor's Home Business Start sites.

Methods To Get More From Adsense

All webmasters and site owners who have been trying to earn from their sites must be aware of a monster called Adsense.
Adsense has presented a new and easy opportunity to earn money from your site. Adsense virtually allows any person who has built a content site or a blog to earn money, just by placing some code on their web pages. Adsense has given the ability to the web masters to concentrate on their sites rather than wasting time on trying to figure out what advertisements to put on their sites.

There are many web masters who make living on Adsense, but there are also many web masters who spend lot of time on figuring out the magic trick to earn from Adsense. Making a good living from Adsense might seem difficult but it is definitely not impossible.

Just placing Adsense code on your site is not enough if you are looking at Adsense as your only source of income. You need to experiment a lot with Adsense formats, placement and choice of keywords.

Whatever topic your site deals with, you should take care to build page around a specific topic. This ensures that the Adsense ads placed on the page, are relevant and useful to the visitors wanting to know more on the topic, and these visitors will eventually end up clicking the Adsense ad.

You should take care when placing your Adsense ads. If you read through Google help on Adsense, you will find the heat maps suggesting the best locations for your adverts. It is a proven fact that, one place the visitors look first on the site is the top left position. Since this is the place that will have the visitor's attention, it definitely helps to place your Adsense ads there.

You should also consider placing the Adsense ads on high traffic pages. You will be able to identify the most visited pages on your site by looking at the logs or even your Google Analytics account, which provides you page by page details of visitors.

Though the banner and skyscrapers adverts look pretty good on your site, you should try to avoid using those on your site. Such banners are usually ignored by the visitors. Do you recollect clicking on any banner on a site you visited recently?

You should also use the Adsense formats to make sure your Adsense ads blend with your web pages. Google provides you different palettes to try font colors, backgrounds and borders. There is no point in placing an ad on the page which does not blend with your site and will effectively not be clicked by any visitor.

Another important factor ignored by most of the webmasters is the Adsense preview tool. Google provides with an excellent tool to help you preview the ads that appear on your page. This tool allows you to see the sample ads and formats, preview colors on your page, check the destination of the ads and geo targeted locations to see what visitors in other countries will see.

Besides the above mentioned factors, it is also important to have a definite focus on what you want to achieve. No matter how busy you are, you should always spare some time to experiment with the Adsense ads to improve the CTR. Whatever experts say, just following the basics, is really the magic of making more from Adsense.

Do You Know What is SEO Web Designing

Contrary to popular belief, search engine optimization does not start after a website is made, ideally SEO should be carried out during the development of a website.

SEO web designing services help new and existing websites improve their web design to make the design more search engine friendly. A typical SEO firm does not offer SEO web designing, and only larger and experienced firms are currently offering SEO web designing as a part of their services.
SEO web designing works on both the code and design level. One of the leading SEO web designing services is making websites XHTML compliant. XHTML compliance helps improve the ranking of websites greatly, and making a website XHTML compliant usually requires tweaking a website's coding. For example, web designers mostly use a regular '>' tag to end an open tag; however the code '' would be XHTML invalid; the correct code will be ''. Run a non XHTML compliant web page through the W3C XHTML validator and the validator will show close to a 100 errors. SEO firms work in conjunction with designers to create a website that is feature rich and at the same time XHTML compliant.

What is interesting to note is that XHTML validation is not the only validation service that is important, more and more websites are working towards making their websites HTML 4.01 compliant. Irrespective of the nature of the website, the best way to improve the overall design and ranking of a website is to make the code and design XHTML or HTML 4.01 compliant. Google and other search engines pay special attention to both XHTML and HTML 4.01 compliance. In addition to XHMTL compliance, there are other design aspects that are critical for proper optimization of a website.
It is vital to have important keywords in H1 or similar highlighting tags; this ensures that search engines give priority to the keywords. Newer features of Google like image search have ensured that even aspects like images are given due importance in SEO web designing. For example, if an image is properly tagged using the 'ALT' tag, chances are once a website is optimized even the images of the website will start showing for popular searches.
For example, if you type in the keyword 'flower image' on Google, apart from regular web results the search also shows images from websites. Optimizing images is a fantastic way to improve the popularity of a website (videos are also expected to play a similar role in SEO web designing soon). Apart from images, page elements like tables and bold text are also important SEO web designing factors. Without going into too much detail, link building can only do so much to improve the popularity of a website; SEO web designing plays a vital role in improving the ranking of a website. Today's SEO web designing services are not a revolutionary service they are an evolutionary change in the paradigm of search engine optimization.

Growing Your Traffic The Organic Way

1) Use available tools There are a number of useful tools out there today to help with all aspects of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and search marketing. The use of Google webmaster tools, and rank checking software are a definite must. Google trends and Google adword keyword suggestion tools are great resources for keyword research. Other handy tools include SEO plug-ins for the firefox browser, spider simulators and keyword density tools. Many of these tools are available online. There are often multiple versions of particular tools; it is worth spending a little bit of time trying each tool to determine which tools you find most beneficial.
2) Stay Up to Date The SEO industry is changing all of the time, so it is important to stay up to date with the latest developments. Reading SEO blogs and browsing SEO discussion forums are a great way of staying informed of the latest developments. By doing so, you will also learn a lot, be it a new link building idea or a new handy plug-in which may save you a lot of time. Recommended blogs include: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/, http://www.wolf-howl.com/ , and http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/.

3) Wider Picture Look at your search marketing campaign from broader picture, what else could you be doing in online marketing that will have a positive impact on your backlink profile / traffic / rankings? For example, if your site has a blog, are you using blog pinging services (Google’s own service or services such as Weblogs and Feed burner). Are you utilising local search, universal search elements? For example, are you including unique image alt tags, increasing the chances of appearing in Google image search? If you publish news articles, does your site have a Google news sitemap? How appropriate is your site to social media outlets, such as stumble upon, digg.com and reddit.com?

4) User Experience Obtaining top rankings for your selected keyword is great, but unless this traffic is converting into sales / leads this traffic is worthless. Be sure to keep the user experience in mind when altering site structures. Is it easy for users to find what they are looking for? Does SEO compromise user experience? Web users are becoming more and more savvy, if they can not find what they are looking for in seconds, they are likely to try looking elsewhere. Is the navigation consistent throughout the site? Analyise your site analyitics to find big exit points, and focus on ways of reducing the number of people leaving the site. Maybe the user journey from homepage to sale is unnecessarily long, and can be reduced. Software is available which allows you to track the mouse movements of individual users (clicktale.com), which can provide a great insight to user experience.

SEO for Beginners: Spiders are People

OK, arachnids are not people, and search engine spiders are not really people, either. But what I'm driving at is that search engine spiders "think" like people. How do I know this? Because human beings wrote them. Any software that does analysis of any kind does so with the intelligence and analytical rules programmed into it by its human developers.
How Humans Comprehend

Imagine that I handed you an article to read that I had printed out. It's about 20 pages long, but I didn't tell you anything about it. Worse, you're going to have to pass a test on the content. Get out your highlighter!

The best reading instructors teach their students to get the context before seriously studying a text like a chapter of a history book or an article. This is because educational research has shown that knowing the general scope of a selection helps human readers comprehend and retain more of the subject matter. By the way, this example is real, not contrived: I used to be a high school teacher and I took a good deal of post-graduate coursework in what is known as "content area reading".

The easiest way to get the general context is to find the title. The next step is to look at section headings. The combination of the two frames the range or scope of the document or chapter. You can also pick up some hints from picture and diagram captions.

Once you know what the document is about, you can begin to dig into the actual text. As you read, you can often discern important or significant points by repetition. That is, content that is paraphrased and rephrased is often very important: The author obviously thought it worth the effort to rephrase the explanation a couple times (or more). [This paragraph contains a clever example, if I don't say so myself: Did you see it?]

How Search Engine Spiders Comprehend

Not too surprisingly, search engine spiders take the exact same approach as humans.

Like human readers, spiders start to get a clue by looking at titles and section headings. On a web page the spiders all look for your title tag, so it certainly pays to create a title for your web page. Furthermore, it pays even more if that title contains keywords.

An Aside: What are "keywords", anyway?

Most search engines ignore the keyword metatag in the HTML of your web pages, so why do web marketers constantly talk about keywords? The reason is that even if you do not use the keyword metatag on your page, you should select several keywords that describe the content of your page, and then make sure those keywords are sprinkled throughout the page multiple times and in a natural-sounding manner.

The places to use keywords include the title (in the h1 HTML tag), heading text (e.g. in h2 tags), alt and title tags for images, and in body text.

These keywords give the search engine spiders a stronger sense of what your page is really about.

Here's an important observation: Ultimately, our goal is not to "trick" the search engine, but rather to help it see clearly what our content is about. Google and the other engines are getting very adept at figuring out artificial keyword sprinkling. Never string keywords or keyword phrases many times in succession. Google, in particular, sees this is a keyword spamming and will exact painful revenge.

There is also speculation that if your keyword-to-content ratio is unnaturally high, the search engines also discount that. I believe that to be quite likely, but "unnaturally high" is a closely guarded secret. The bottom line for me is that if the body text sounds funny because of all the keywords, you've moved into the danger zone. I'll recommend to you the same thing I did to my Advanced Composition students years ago: Read your page aloud. If it sounds odd in any way, rewrite the odd part.

The search engine spider looks for your section heading in-surprise-the HTML heading tags, especially the h1 tag. You should use these tags on your pages, and make sure they contain keywords.

One often overlooked place to insert keywords is in the alt and title tags of images. Although not quite analogous to a caption that a human reader would examine, the spiders nevertheless figure that these tags probably give a hint as to what the image is about (and in normal circumstances, they do). The image, in turn, gives another clue as to what the page is about.

Once the spider provides a pretty good idea what your page is about, the search engine's next job is to figure out whether your site has high quality content.

More Software and Human Similarities

If somebody claims to be an authority on a subject, it is usually prudent to check out the claim-especially if we're going to be hiring them or our money is otherwise involved. We humans generally do this by checking references.

The search engine spiders operate in fundamentally the same fashion. They assume that a site has high quality content on a given subject if other web sites have links pointing to it. In other words, the site is likely good if the references check out.

Google, in particular, has become very sophisticated in its link analysis. For example, if you trade links, the value of the link is diminished somewhat (nobody knows how much for sure). The reason is that if you really have content that I value and I think my site visitors need, I'll link to you without a trade. An unreciprocated link is one of the surest signs of high quality material on the referenced web site.

The search engines have also gotten very careful about paid links. If your link shows up on a link "farm" (a page or site that only exists for the purpose of creating links to fool the search engines), you may find your site banned altogether. Remember the old butter commercial where the lady says, "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature!" and then she conjures up a storm? Well, the same is true for the search engines. Get caught trying to fool the spider and she'll bite you.

Forgive the mixed metaphors and just remember the point.

The search engines are also known to discount run-of-site links. Let's say you have a link to your home page on every single page of your monstrously large web site. Even though it might add up to thousands of links, it will have almost zero credibility in terms of boosting your page ranking.

The moral to the story is this: Don't use run-of-site links to boost your ranking. If it is crucial to your site navigation, fine. Just don't do the work creating all those links and expect them to help your page rank at all.

There is one remaining question, namely "Do internal links help? That is, does a link from page "A" of my web site to page "B" boost page B's page rank on Google or any other search engine?

According to my sources, the answer is yes, but only just a little. External links are given a lot more credibility. Unfortunately, external links are substantially more difficult to acquire.

Next time: The importance of links and how to get them. In this installment of the SEO for Beginners series, Ross describes the similarities between how humans and search engine spiders comprehend text. These similarities imply several important things about on-page optimization. Keywords: Search Engine Optimization, seo, Marketing, website, business.

High Search Engine Ranking

What is overlooked is the fact that the search engines have established ranking criteria based upon extensive study of their users. In most cases, the sites that do not have high search engine ranking are not giving the visitor what the search engine rule book has deemed important. Unless they have the awareness to know what search engine users want, how could a web designer or business owner expect to do better?
In short, put informative content on your pages. Your search engine techniques shouldn't center on taking an existing site and changing it as little as possible for the sole purpose of achieving high search engine rankings- rather it should center around making whatever changes are necessary to directly address the interests of your visitors. 'The Visitor is King.’ - keep that in mind when working on your website, and the search engines are sure to reward you with high search engine rankings.

For high search engine ranking you also need to make sure that your website gets fully indexed. There are two main ways to ensure that your site is spider friendly and that the relevancy is added. The first is to place text links at the bottom of your homepage to your main internal pages. The second is to create a sitemap to all your internal pages and link to it from your homepage.

Remember, all major search engines give credit to sites that have quality links pointing to them. How many is enough depends on your industry and targeted phrases. The first place to seek links is with topic-specific directories. After that you may want to move into reciprocal link building. Some webmasters will simply link to any website that links back to them. But we advise you to link to relevant sites only

If your web designer is unable to show high rankings for your site, its time to change hands. Search engine optimization (SEO) specialists bring you effective solutions to give your site high search engine ranking. Find a specialist with a good track record and reap the results.

What Google Thinks Of Your Site?

What Google Thinks Of Your Site?
by Titus Hoskins

How Google views your site does matter if you want to succeed online because Google has become the dominant search engine on the web. It now has over 60% of the U.S. search engine market. In other countries around the world that percentage rises to 80% or more. In addition, the Google Brand Name has solidly permeated the popular psyche and any top rankings within Google will bring much weight and prestige along with all that traffic.
If you're a webmaster, you will already know how vital Google is to the success of your site, especially if you rely upon organic keyword rankings for your traffic. This free organic traffic from Google is highly desired by webmasters because it is extremely targeted and delivers high conversion rates.

In trying to reach the highest rankings possible, I (like most webmasters) have to be constantly aware of what Google thinks of my site and content. As a webmaster and marketer I have always geared my online marketing towards Google. I have spent years building my keyword rankings within Google; if you take out the fact that it has nearly driven me insane, it has mostly been a positive experience.

This experience has also shown me it is indeed important for anyone to know how Google views and rates your site or content. The more knowledge you have, the better able you will be to tackle any obstacles and challenges that will come your way.

SERPs Is The Only Opinion That Counts

And like most webmasters, I try to find out as much about Google as is humanly possible, but Google doesn't give up its secrets easily. In fact, many webmasters would argue the only true opinion Google has of your site is shown in their SERPs - if your keywords/pages are ranked in the number one spots in Google's "Search Engine Results Pages" then Google must think your site or content deserves to be there.

However, there are other ways of finding out how Google is viewing your content. Below are several Google webmaster tools and things you can do to discover just how Google views your site or pages. They will give you a better picture of what Google thinks about your site.

......................................................................
Checking Your Content/Keywords In Google
......................................................................

One handy tool that will show you what Google thinks your pages consist of is located here:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Just type in your URL and tick off website content and you will get a listing of the major keywords Google has for your content. If your targeted keyword or keywords are not listed, then you have to do some re-writing.

...................................................................
Checking Your Backlinks In Google
...................................................................

If you want to find out how many backlinks your site has in Google, just open up Google Search and type in:

link:yourURL

and it will show you the number of backlinks you have.

Since Google doesn't give you all your existing backlinks, many webmaster also use Yahoo! to find a more exact number of links your site has on the web.

Just open Yahoo! and type in: linkdomain:yourURL

Now whether Google is using or considering all these backlinks is the big question? Finding the exact number of backlinks you have in Google has always been a problem because Google is not giving you the exact number or at least this is the general opinion of most SEO experts.

Another way I monitor my links in Google is to place quotation marks around my site name or my name "bizwaremagic" or "titus hoskins" and do a search in Google. This gives me the pages containing references to me or my site. This is usually 50,000 to 100,000 pages, I have also noticed my online income usually correlates as this number goes up or down.

...................................................................
Checking Your Indexed Pages In Google
...................................................................

Obviously, it is very important for you to know what content the search engines have indexed from your site. You can also check to see how your links are displayed and to see if any titles or descriptions are missing from your pages.

You can see how many of your pages are indexed in Google by using the site command.

Just type into Google Search:

site:yourURL

A little while back, having your pages indexed in Google's Supplemental Index caused webmasters much stress as it seemed Google was judging these pages as "second class" pages. Since then, Google no longer uses the Supplementary Label in grading pages but that doesn't mean a supplementary index doesn't exist; just that Google has promised to crawl and consider these pages as well in any search query.

...................................................................
Checking Your Google Cache
...................................................................

You can also check to see the Google Cache of your site by using the cache command. You will also discover when it was last retrieved.

Just type into Google Search:

cache:yourURL

...................................................................
Checking Your PageRank Within Google
...................................................................

Another tricky issue is PageRank. This is supposed to be the heart of Google's ranking system created by Larry Page and Sergey Brin; each link is considered a "vote" for your page and the higher the number of "votes" you have, the higher the PR your page receives. However, again Google is using "smoke and mirrors" to conceal your true PageRank mainly to cut out abuse and manipulation of their results. Some experts say PageRank still counts, other say it doesn't.

You can check your Google PageRank here:

http://www.iwebtool.com/pagerank_checker

From my own experiences, I have received more traffic when my site was at PR4 than I received when it was at PR6. What's important is getting high rankings for your targeted keywords... if you get top spots, it doesn't matter if your main index page (site) is PR4 or PR6, you're still get the same amount of traffic. In other words, don't become too fixated on PageRank because Google in many cases is not letting you see the true PR of a webpage.

I would like to add one point to the whole PageRank issue and that has to do with perception. If you're running an online business then having a PR8 site does matter for it will bring in more business and customers (especially if you're in the SEO industry) mainly because of the "perceived value" of your site or business.

What Google thinks does matter!

In other words, what Google thinks of your site can play a major role in your success. Mainly because, like it or hate it, Google has become the supreme authority on the web and what they say, counts. Therefore, you should always be paying special attention to just what Google is saying about your site and acting upon that knowledge accordingly.

How To Attract More Visitors to Your Website

How To Attract More Visitors to Your Website
by Peter Webber

1. Avoid Flash and frames
Flash content is completely unreadable to search engines, and frames (i.e. pages which are compiled of smaller areas - or 'frames' - to make up one web page) are not normally picked up by them either. It's OK to have smaller, embedded Flash elements within an HTML website, but an entirely Flash site will need a separate HTML version. Individual frame pages that do get picked up by search engines tend to be isolated from the rest of the site, which places them out of context.

2. Don't display wording as graphics only
Page content or wording displayed as graphics cannot be seen by search engines, so it will not be matched against the phrases people are searching for. Nowadays, style sheets allow a good range of text formatting so you don't have to completely sacrifice on style if you choose to use text. If graphics are essential, you should also use ALT tags to provide appropriate descriptive text in addition to the images.

3. Divide and conquer!
Pages dedicated to separate distinct topics or items get a stronger match on search engines than pages that try to cover everything. Try to divide sites up into separate pages (e.g. a different page for each subject, category, product, news item, etc).

4. Put keywords in link text
The text in a hyperlink helps tell search engines what the target page is about. When you link to a page try to use HTML text (as per 2 above) and put some relevant keywords in the link text. This is especially important for your navigation menus.

5. Place popular search terms in the page text
Try to make sure that visible text on each page contains the words and phrases that potential visitors are actually searching for. Do not duplicate phrases unnecessarily, and try to keep it all relevant to the specific subject of that page.

6. Good title tags
The "title" tag is usually what the search engine will display as the link text in the search results - you have around 6 words to clearly state what the page is about.

7. Keywords and Description meta-tags
These meta-tags help provide further supporting content for search engines. The Keywords tag should be a comma-separated list of all the common words and phrases that visitors search for, which can include alternative spellings, misspellings and synonyms. The
Description tag should be a brief sentence or two. If you find yourself having to use hundreds of keywords or long descriptions, then the page probably needs to be divided up as described in point 3.

8. Links in good, links out bad
Links to external sites usually hurt your site rankings, whereas incoming links to your site can help. Try to limit outgoing links and only do link exchanges with sites that rank well. We can advise you on how to assess link exchange partners more accurately.

9. Have a main domain

10. No splash pages
Swish animated company logos may do wonders for the boss' ego, but they create an additional link for search engines have to crawl past to reach the relevant content. This can reduce the ranking of the rest of the site pages by as much as 20%, which could mean the difference between being on the first page of results or not.
