How To Get More Website Traffic

How To Get More Website Traffic
by Steve Gillman

It used to be that you could actually get more website traffic by simply throwing a bunch of good keyword search phrases on your pages and in the HTML "tags." Of course search engines got better, and so the "experts" began to tell us that we just needed high-quality content. "Build it and they will come," became the operating theory of many.
Of course, it just wasn't true. You still needed to optimize the pages. After all, if your page was about ultralight backpacking, how would the search engines know that if you didn't use the phrase a few times on the page? And if you preferred to call it "fastpacking," there was never a way for all those searchers of "ultralight backpacking" to find your page - even if it was exactly the content they wanted.

So optimization still matters. But when the search engine algorithms changed again they began to place less emphasis on "on site" optimization. You still need those keywords on the page, but this is no longer enough. You also need to have other sites linking to yours, to show that you are important. Links have become very important if you want more website traffic from search engines.

The type of link matters though. Reciprocal links - where you trade with another site - are no longer of much value. Search engine algorithms have been adjusted for the fact that sites started trading irrelevant links just to boost rankings. Only one-way unpaid links are considered a true "vote of confidence" by the search engines, and so these are what you need.

Now, some experts still claim that you get links by having great content. People read your page, like it and so link to it. That would be nice, but it isn't common at all. In fact, there are several things wrong with this theory.

First, how do the readers find your page to begin with, so they can then decide they like it enough to link to it? If you have no incoming links, the search engines ignore you, so how does anyone find the page? Secondly, if some visitors do make their way to your pages, will they have websites to link to you from? Most internet users either don't have a website or they barely know how to create a link.

Finally, serious webmasters are hesitant to link to other sites too often now. Why? They don't want to link to possible competition for starters. But the bigger reason is that a given page can only has just so much "voting power" according to search engine algorithms, so owners of sites like to divide it up in beneficial ways - like by linking to their own pages and sites.

So getting incoming links is the way to get more website traffic, but they are hard to get. What can you do? You can pay for traffic, but with many sites this is impractical. If your site makes ten cents per visitor and you pay fifty cents to get one, you are just throwing your money away.

Now, before I answer the question of how to get more traffic, let me add an encouraging note. Contrary to what some are saying, good content is not irrelevant now. Don't listen to the skeptics. I recently read an opinion piece by a webmaster who said the old idea of "building a great website with great content" in order to get traffic was "foolish nonsense." It isn't.

What do we want when we search for things online? We want great websites with great content, right? That is exactly what the search engines are trying to point us too. The fact that they don't do it perfectly doesn't mean they aren't getting better at it. So as they get continue to improve, you want to have the kind of site that they are looking for. If you're thinking long term, have good content.

Finally, one of the best ways I have found to generate more website traffic is with simple articles like this one. Submit it to a few article directories, and you'll get some readers. If they like it, some will even take it and use it on their websites, creating valuable one-way links. That helps with your search engine rankings. Meanwhile, some readers will like it enough to want more, and they'll click that link in your resource or "about the author" box at the end of the article.

The Importance of Tracking Your Web Site Traffic

The Importance of Tracking Your Web Site Traffic
by Julie Friedman Bacchini

You have a web site. You have web site visitors. You even have web site sales. Everything seems to be working: why should you go through the effort to track and analyze your web site traffic?

The fact is, the importance of tracking your site traffic is not stressed nearly enough. At most, people say, "Sure, I track my site traffic. We had 5,000 hits last month!" But that, quite frankly, isn't "tracking your site traffic." That is a simple datum, and it doesn't tell you anything about your site or your site traffic.

The importance of tracking your site traffic lies in the fact that proper web traffic analytics will help you answer these key questions:

Am I reaching my target market?

If you went about developing your web site systematically, you probably spent time researching and defining your target market. You then designed your site to reach those specific people. But all your research was still - at its base - a hypothesis. You made assumptions about how to reach your customer base. Tracking your site traffic will verify what is actually happening on your site (who is coming and what they are doing), compared to what you expected to happen.

How are people interacting with my site?

Sure, people are coming to your web site. But what are they doing there? Do they hit the home page and leave? Do they go immediately to your free section and never browse your sale items? Do 90% of the people who click on your online payment form subsequently abandon it?

Tracking your site traffic will allow you to see how people proceed through your site, where they spend their time, what they do, and any problems they may be encountering. And that information can help you significantly improve their user experience - and your sales.

Where is my site traffic coming from?

To drive traffic to your site, you are likely engaged in multiple marketing efforts. You may have search engine optimized your content, engaged in article marketing, and developed reciprocal links from key partners. You may be involved in a pay-per-click campaign. Perhaps you also explored email marketing or print advertising.

Web traffic analytics will tell you exactly how successful each and every one of those marketing efforts is. You will then be able to cut the fat from your marketing plan and focus on the most strategic and productive campaigns.

What trends do I see?

The web is a constantly changing place. What worked last year may not work this year. You can't rely on the mantra "we've always done it this way" and expect to see consistently positive results for years on end.

By tracking your site traffic, you will be able to see trends as they unfold: trends in who is coming to your site, how they are interacting with it, what they want, how they buy, etc. You will be able to respond proactively to changing patterns, rather than reactively scrambling to fix a situation after it has become a major problem.

If you are serious about using your web site as a tool for business, tracking your site traffic is an absolute essential. The questions above just scratch the surface of what web traffic analytics can do for you. But the bottom line is this: tracking your site traffic provides you with quantifiable data to allow you to make wise decisions for your business.

6 Ideas for Viral Marketing! by Trevor Gardner

6 Ideas for Viral Marketing!
by Trevor Gardner

Here are six ideas to help you start your viral marketing campaign:
1. Purchase the branding rights to a viral E-book. Allow people to give away your free E-book to their visitors. Then, their visitors will also give it away. This will just continue to spread your ad all over the Internet.

2. If you have the ability to set up a forum or other bulletin board, you really have a great tool. Allow people to use your online discussion board for their own website. Some people don't have one. Just include your banner ad at the top of the board.

3. Do you have a knack for web design? Create some templates, graphics, etc. and upload them to your site. Then, allow people to give away your free web design graphics, fonts, templates, etc. Just include your ad on them or require people to link directly to your web site. Make sure that you include a link back to your site in the copyright notice and require them to keep your copyright notice in tact.

4. Write an E-book. Allow people to place an advertisement in your free E-book if, in exchange, they give away the E-book to their web visitors or E-zine subscribers.

5. Write articles that pertain to your product or service. Allow people to reprint your articles on their website, in their E-zine, newsletter, magazine or E-books. Include your resource box and the option for article reprints at the bottom of each article.

6. You can easily find products on the Internet that will sell you a license allowing you to distribute the product free of charge to other people. Look for those products that provide "branding rights". That is where you can include your own name, website, and contact information.

7 Secrets to Internet Marketing 2.0

7 Secrets to Internet Marketing 2.0 by InterRep, LLC

Increasingly the Internet continues to grow and command the attention of billions online. So much so that Internet usage is approaching television viewership in terms of personal consumption. Major advertisers are flocking and positioning themselves in front of the current groundswell of online users.

Local businesses can now promote and sell their products and services with targeted precision thanks to advances in geo-targeting technology.People are logging on with countless hours at popular social networking sites like MySpace, FaceBook, and YouTube. If your business needs to survive in the new Internet 2.0 digital environment this article is an excellent primer to do so.

In the new Internet 2.0 business environment there are some old standbys like search engines and email marketing, juxtaposed with newer media mainstays like social networking sites. It may be confusing navigating the broad range of Internet marketing options and deciding on the best road to take to drive online sales and profits. Below are 7 secrets to effective business promotion in the age Internet Marketing 2.0.

1. Search Engines are the starting points for online marketing. This is because researching search engines can tell you if you have a viable internet marketing opportunity.

Smart usage of search engines starts with research and ends with split testing and web analytics. Reviewing search terms on web applications like Word Tracker or Keyword Discovery is crucial to determining how people look for information related to their products, services, or industry.

Whether you are planning to use search advertising or natural search engine listing (organic search) knowing which search terms to use is crucial to the success of your Internet marketing campaign. You also need to learn to do split testing on your landing pages and analyze your website statistics to gauge the effectiveness of your search engine marketing campaign.

2. Email Marketing is the Internet's first killer app. Although email isn't as dependable as it once was due to filters, this old warrior in Internet media is still a critical component of online marketing.

Email marketing can be a great pre-seller of your products or services. People are increasing reluctant to share their email addresses so you have to make them a compelling offer to get them to submit to your list.

Usually you have to offer something free or at a low cost to get them to sign up for your email list. However, once you do get them to sign up you can market to them with the soft sell of useful information.

Offering a free course or newsletter of interest in your industry is the way to go. For instance a chiropractor might offer a free email course like 7 ways to ease back pain. Or a contractor might offer a free course on 7 ways to enhance your real estate value.

Think about ways you can help your potential customers with good information. This way you position yourself as an expert and trusted resource to your prospect.

If you are pressed for time create an evergreen ezine or ecourse which is powered with an autoresponder backend. This will automate your marketing efforts and help you develop trust and rapport with your email subscribers.

Don't overlook your established customers with your email efforts. When you get sales enter your customers into your email list or use shopping cart software to automate this process.

3. Use blogging & RSS feeds. While there are questions around on the web about whether there is blog burnout. People still enjoy reading blogs from good and provocative writers.

If you establish a blog with a RSS feed on your site you will notice the search engines will send you more traffic when you do it on a regular basis. Word Press is a good blog software to use. Blogger is the way to go if you aren't very technically inclined.

The search engines and blog directories should be pinged by the blog. Pinging will signal the search engines and they will send out retrieval programs called spiders to index your new blog posts.

4. List yourself with specialty directories. Never underestimate the importance of getting listed in authority directories in your industry. Your industry may have a major trade association your business or website needs to be listed in. Find out and get listed in vertical of specialty directories online related to your business.

5. Participate on social networking. YouTube, MySpace, and FaceBook, are getting hundreds of millions of people to signup and log-in on a regular basis. In one month YouTube received requests for 1 billion video downloads.

You should think creatively and constantly test and review your efforts on popular social networking sites. Customize your member's page on these social media sites.

Join groups within these sites and make friends. Share your insights and knowledge with targeted groups within these social networking sites.

Blog within these sites and make sure you link back to your web pages. Use videos and audio where possible to personalize your membership page.

The more you participate on social media sites the more you will see the fruits of your labor.

6. Develop ancillary media. Create media to compliment your promotional efforts online like podcasts, videos, and web applications. Creating this unique, entertaining, and useful content can make your web destination more popular, sticky, and viral in nature.

7. Take control with online management. With all of the different options to market your business online you could get confused with which ones offer the most bang for your buck. You will have to test and constantly review which ones are most effective for your kind of business.

You have to manage your Internet marketing efforts effectively to get a good return on your investment in terms of time and bottom-line results. Rather than wasting your money or time with experimentation you may do better employing a good Internet marketing advertising agency or marketing firm with expertise in these areas.

For most businesses these days, whether worldwide or locally focused, the Internet is an essential tool to grow and maintain a competitive advantage in your industry. Making smart decisions and leveraging the insights of Internet professionals will put you on the road to do effective Internet promotions for your business.

Earn Money Now - start today!

Earn Money Now - start today!

So, you are ready to “EARN MONEY NOW” and want to start an Internet business and work from home to earn a 5 or probably 6 digit income each month. With so many “money making ideas” available, you must be wondering what are the best Internet business opportunities that will help you to get a steady income month after month. Below, I have discussed how you can earn money now and how to get started with them

Find a business opportunity
First, you need to find money making ideas to kick-start your business. Two best methods of searching for the top Internet businesses are to join an online forum and to ask your friends/colleagues who have been involved with Internet business for sometime. Even before joining a forum, search on Google what are the best home-based business opportunities available.
earn money nowSome top business ideas are: affiliate marketing, ghost writing or copywriting, website designing, giving out SEO tips, auction selling, publishing AdSense ads on your website, managing PPC accounts for other people and the list goes on and on. You simply need to find out which suits you the best to earn money now according to your area of interest.

Check how sound the opportunity is
Once you spot a good opportunity, you need to find out how sound the business plan is. There are lots of scam money making ideas schemes doing rounds on Internet, which claim to be able to make you millionaires practically overnight. Again, online forums are good media to check on an Internet business opportunity. It is probably not wise to invest a lot of money to the first business opportunity you see. Research and find out if you can indeed make use of it and earn money now from it.

Get started
To earn money now and for the long term - It takes discipline and patience. If you want to be successful and make money from any Internet-based businesses. You need to chalk out a game plan and stick to it. Write down the basic requirements for starting your business and keep a checklist handy to make sure that you have taken care of everything before taking the plunge. For example, if you are doing affiliate marketing, make sure that you have a website with unique and informative content or has a sound PPC ad campaign in place to send people directly to the parent website. The goal should be to make money now - to many people fall for the grand idea of making money that they can’t see the scam coming. If you have to pay out large amounts of money and it’s going to continue to cost you money before you see your first dime - think twice about this online business. of course - anyone that promises to make you rich cause you’ll earn money now and make thousands over night - be suspicious too.

HOW TO DEVELOP PAGERANK STRATEGIES

HOW TO DEVELOP PAGERANK STRATEGIES by Anne-Marie Ronsen

Search Engine optimization is an advantageous method by means of which your URL can get the kind of spotlight which will earn it hundreds and thousands of visitors every single day! There are a number of ways of taking advantage of search engine optimization. Consider this; your website consists of a number of pages, what if I say that each of these pages may, individually, be maximized for search engine optimization? Putting to use your search engine technique on every one of your web pages will help you notch up your ranking on the search engines and increase your web traffic manifolds.
Follow the tips below to make SEO work for you.

• Internal Links

Now, search engines have this particular liking for sites with a lot of links on its pages, so make sure you include loads of them on all your pages. Keep the links internal, that is let them link one part of the website to another or one end of the page to the other end and so on. The basic reason for this is to keep your visitor occupied with the site, once they are at it. There is no plausible reason as to why you should encourage your visitors to leave your site by providing external links, keep it in the home front and yet optimize your site for the search engines.

• External Links

Like we just discussed external links in your site is a bad distraction which tends to steal away your visitors and sweep them off to other destinations. As a site owner, therefore, external links can seem a particularly unwelcome topic. But hold on, here is the catch, search engine's offer higher rankings to sites which have both, external and internal links. Therefore there is no avoiding it, put up a few external links on your site, push them off into the margins of the page or right at the bottom of it, only make sure that you do put it, there's no getting away from its obvious power.

• Keywords

Optimize all the pages on your site for keywords. Technically your keywords should be present more than thrice on all the pages. For this reason an abundance of content is a good idea, sprinkle your keywords abundantly (but meaningfully and sensibly) within the written body of the site cause, search engine's, though they cannot read, can and do scan text. If you have optimized each page right then every time a search engine scans your site's text then your keywords will get detected and you will in turn achieve a higher ranking with it.

It is a known fact that Google assigns every single website page a Google Page rank, which is based on a complicated mathematical algorithm. Pages are ranked on a scale with zero as the lowest and ten as the highest. Interlinking of websites - external as well as inter - holds value so far as Page Rank is concerned.

If the site X links to the site Y, the latter gets credited with a percentage of Site X's Page Rank which kind of gets passed cover to it. The Site X loses nothing so far as Page Rank is concerned - unless and until the link is to a bad neighborhood or a banned area.

An example to understand the situation better. Site X had a Page Rank of 5, there were only 2 outbound links to Site X. One of the outbound Links was intended to brand new Site Y. Brand new Site Y had 4 outgoing links, with NO other Incoming Links, apart from the one from Site X. Google awarded Site Y a Page Rank of 5.

From this example in real life, it is evident that fewer outbound links on a per page basis means a higher Page Rank.

If Site X in the above example had a huge amount of outgoing links on the page, in that case the percentage of Page Rank passed would have been smaller and the New Site Y would have received a lower rank than the equal rank that was passed.

Things to avoid

While engaging in reciprocal linking, make sure you check the amount of outbound links that not only the page has but the overall site as well. Search engines such as Google doesn't like pornography sites, gambling sites and Link Farms that have thousands of links on them. Unless that is your business, don't link to any of those types of sites.

You can lose Page Rank and Search Engine Results if you link to sites that are considered Bad Neighborhoods or are Banned. Be alert and make sure you check before linking. Though sometimes you may not be "punished", you won't be gaining any benefits and the loss in PR of your site is not at all worth it.

Be aware of which sites the outbound links are linking your site to. Check your outbound links from time to time, ensuring that they are:

1) Still an active website

2) Still a resource for the reason you linked to them in the first place

3) They have not changed formats or the theme and continue to be a quality site.

Page Rank improves over time. Though not very often, Google does update the Page Rank, once in say every four to eight months. So link exchange with like-themed sites or quality sites is the best possible SEO strategy.

There are even more strategies for a beneficial Page Rank than these. But these are some of the best and most popular of them. With more study and research, it would not be hard to find out more on Page Rank strategies. The web is a vast store of information and with sincere research and efforts it is quite easy to achieve the much coveted success for your website.

How to Get Targeted Traffic to Your Video

Video Marketing: How to Get Targeted Traffic to Your Video by Peter Rubel

How do you get targeted traffic to your online video? First, let me ask why someone want to view your video?
Assuming you have maybe half a second to catch someone's attention when your video comes up, the main hooks you have are the title and the unmoving visual (the way your video looks before clicking to play). But how did the potential viewer get to where he or she has a chance to click on your video? By word search. The title and the tag words or description to your video act like keywords, but describe the visual content of the video that the search robots cannot interpret.

So the same principles that apply to adword ads also apply to your videos, at least as far as the verbal portion goes. Research keywords to find what people are looking for. Tailor your video-related words to include those keywords. Make the video relevant to the keywords, especially the title. Keywords, title, and video should all correspond, all be relevant to each other. Deliver what you promise, and you will attract people who have an interest in what your video says.

Ideally, the unmoving visual image beginning your video should also in some way be consistent with the title and keywords. Ideally also, the picture entices the potential viewer in some way by promising authority in the topic or by appealing to some emotional motivation for a potential viewer to look at your video.

And the first twenty or thirty seconds of the video needs to deliver. Of course, if the video is intended for non-profit entertainment purposes only, you may not care as much to target the viewers. But if your video is intended as a means to an end, the question arises:

Who do you want to watch your video?

Of course, the preceding partly answers that question. So to a limited extent does the topical category in which you place your video, if you place it on a site like YouTube. Speaking of YouTube, video placement also affects who sees your video. Videos can be included as links in emails generated when a website viewer chooses to sign up for a free newsletter. They can be included on social network sites, sales websites, and blogs. They can be included on specialized video sites if there is a good match.

To some extent, you can target your online videos to viewers, and so increase your efficiency or return on investment.

Mastering Affiliate Marketing

Mastering Affiliate Marketing and not Giving Up by Peter Damien Ryan

voteSo many of us beginning affiliate marketing become discouraged when success doesn't occur overnight or easily. Many of us also probably make the same fundamental mistakes. And we suffer from 'information overload" and a lack of direction by taking on too many ideas and programs all at once.
It really all comes down to two mistakes that beginner's make:

1. Promoting to many products at once (lack of focus), and.. 2. Giving up too soon.

These two mistakes are related, and are actually self-reinforcing. It sounds obvious enough, but let me explain exactly how this scenario plays out.

Lack of Focus:

Experienced affiliate marketers do have the ability to promote several products, sometimes far a field from each other, at the same time. The reason they can do this is because they'd already learned and applied certain fundamental skills, and have developed a system for themselves which works to bring in sales consistently.

As a beginner, however, you're still learning what works and what doesn't. For that reason alone, you need a clearly defined testing ground - and this means limiting your promotion to just one product when you first start out.

This is because it isn't just about promoting products - it is about finding the right niche, developing keywords, building a web site. It is also learning about traffic generation with tools like article writing, advertising techniques, press releases, viral ebooks, traffic exchanges and so on.

So, how much data do you want to juggle? Do you want to keep track of, say, Google Adwords performance for ONE e-book...or for a dozen of them spread across more than one niche?

This is where a lot of beginners get themselves into a rut. They try to juggle all of this information at once, get overwhelmed by it and simply give up.

Giving Up Too Soon:

The bane of us all - information overload - and when it hits the natural inclination is to surrender

There's no need to despair!

You can turn the situation around completely if you'll just make a commitment to do the following three things:

1. Pick ONE niche market 2. Pick ONE product from that market 3. Use just that one niche product as your testing ground, in order to solidify your skills as an affiliate marketer.

You see, it's a lot like learning to ride a bicycle as a kid. You start off with a tricycle, then move up to regular bike with training wheels and from there onto riding any bike you choose.

The same is true for learning how to promote products as an affiliate.

*Learn how to generate traffic on just one product *Learn how to capture subscribers to your opt-in list for just one product *Learn how to write advertisements and promotional copy for just one product *Learn how to track your advertising links and conversion rates for just that one product....

....and THEN, you'll be able to turn around and apply that knowledge to additional products, in different niches.

The key is to get some real results established in one place, and only then start building on that incrementally.

If you'll follow even just this one simple rule, I promise you'll see an increase in your commissions - and you can drop that 'newbie' label for the title of: Successful Affiliate Marketer!
